I have a question for Dr. Maura McGill:
Q: Could you please answer me about pregnancy and natural hormone treatment. Is it a myth that I can’t get pregnant after I get this hormone replacement therapy?
A: Actually I’ve never heard that. Hormone Replacement Therapy – natural hormones is an enhancement of your ability to have a child, not a deterrent. HIT – that is the synthetic ones that are unable to sit properly into your receptor sites – they do work as contraceptives, and they do make it difficult to get pregnant.
But the natural hormones facilitate the ability of pregnancy. In fact, I had a man in my office, a tall builder chap. Because I’m practicing hormones, and I thought well – this is going to be interesting – it doesn’t look like he needs any testosterone. He came in, nice big beard, nice strong muscles and I asked “what can I do for you”? He said: “I’ve come to ask you about my back”. I said “you do realize that I practice in the area of hormones”? He said: “I do know that, but I trust you because my wife has a baby now, thanks to you” and we had given her progesterone.
She had such an imbalance and we gave her progesterone because she wanted to get pregnant, and in about 3-4 months she was pregnant. Now they have a little girl. I’m not sure that’s a really good reason to ask me to treat his back injury but I was very flattered. It does show you that these natural hormones can help with a pregnancy and do not stand in the way.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that if a woman is suffering from PMS and wants to get pregnant, the progesterone will control the PMS and facilitate her ability to get pregnant. After all, the IVF doctors are the one area of orthodox medicine who use progesterone quite regularly.
