Are you concerned about having Cramps but no Period?
Here is my talk on this matter. Please share it everybody interested in improving their hormonal balance.
Hi, I’m Dr. Maura McGill and I’m an expert in Natural Women Treatment and today I want to discuss why you might be having cramps but no period. There’re two important reasons, why.
One is ‘early pregnancy’, will sometimes give you a kind of a trial at a period and few cramps in the uterus and a late period that is coming still and hasn’t arrived yet. Cramps are caused by the contraction of the uterine muscles and a longer woman gets very bad cramps and then sometimes they don’t have a period.
It has to be established when you may have become pregnant, particularly with an ectopic pregnancy that means a pregnancy that’s in the tube because the uterus might still cramp but the pregnancy is in the tube and no period will ensue. There’re other causes apart from pregnancy and a period that still has to come.
Stresses, physical or emotional, can cause cramps but no period because if there’s not enough wave in the estrogens cycle; in other words it’s not high enough and drop away then there won’t be a bleed. Stress emotional/physical causes the wave formed to be very small then there might be some cramps but they might not be enough to cause a period.
Endometriosis can also cause cramps but no period. However, most people with endometriosis are complaining about excessive period, not no period.
Then of course you have the premenopausal woman who’s not quiet fully menopausal but she’s on her way. She can have cramps and no period. Because again, her estrogen levels have dropped slowly down, and her cycle is like this gentle wave, instead of like a young woman, a big wave that will cause a period. So, premenopausal is another cause.
Ectopic pregnancy, we spoke about and it is an emergency! If you have a lot of pain where you should be having a period, you need to talk to your doctor because ectopic pregnancy actually needs surgical attention.
Early pregnancy is interesting; you could have mild cramping when the egg is embedded in the wall of uterus. The uterus sometimes conceive, yes, yes and hold the egg tight but then it can have kind of, occasional period in pregnancy or tried having a period which means you have a few cramps and you don’t have a bleed.
It’s interesting, we always were taught at medical school that if there are no periods then it must be pregnancy and illuminated it first. But I’ve found women quite often, at least once or twice a year, who have the first of second period during their pregnancy.
The other Cause of cramps without a period is ovarian cysts, these are fluid sacs in the ovaries and they distort the hormonal balance. Another cause often found of cramps without periods, is ovarian Cancer. It’s not that common but you must ask.
Now, when I say ‘it’s nor that common, most general practitioners, family practitioners will only see a dozen cases maximum in a year; However, worldwide we know that there’s a woman who dies because of ovarian cancer every 20 minutes. We don’t have a satisfactory test, specifically for ovarian cancer but we do have a test for ovarian inflammation, and that is a CA-125. Now, positive CA-125 doesn’t atomically mean cancer, but it does mean there’s an inflammation.
There’s also a condition called auto immune oophoritis, now oophoritis is a fancy word for inflammation of the ovary and auto immune disease is where your own body cells attack your own body in various areas, you get auto immune joint disease, you can get autoimmune thyroid disease, and you can rarely autoimmune inflammation of the ovaries and that would need to be checked up by your doctor. That’s another cause of cramps without period.

Eating disorders are another cause of cramps without periods because obese woman, and a rickets woman and to anemic woman can sometimes distort their own hormone flow so they get a wave of contraction without a period. You can of course get primary ovarian fat which won’t give you too much cramps but it will give you no period. And there’re variety of other illnesses that can give you cramps but no periods.
